Joe Theismann: Bad Sign for Brady Quinn: He’s Taking Joe Theismann Seriously

hestilllookskindagay.jpgBrady Quinn’s dreams had just been peed on for 4½ straight hours before finding out he was going to be spending his career in the high-fashion mecca of Cleveland … I thought we could all forgive him if he looked a bit disheveled. Joe Theismann could not.

I felt like he could have presented himself in a much more professional manner. It looked like his tie was the first time he ever tried to tie one. It looked like his hair, he had just walked out of a shower, and he stands there, relieved as all get-out, chewing gum. And to me, that’s not a professional image.

Anyway, Brady Quinn took it to heart … and cut his hair before showing up to Browns minicamp. I personally don’t feel like the length of his hair will be much of a deciding factor in how good he turns out to be. Listening to Joe Theismann, though … that can’t be a positive indicator.

Baseball: If This Continues, Darin Erstad Might Want to Grab a Helmet

Catching a fly ball against the backdrop of dozens of retina-searing white lights can’t be easy. Every now and then, you’re going to lose one … and in such instances, you’re going to stand there and look like a chump. It happens to the best of them. But that doesn’t make it less amusing.

By the way, that clip was created with Flip4Mac Trial. I felt obligated to point that out.

Rockets and Jazz collide in pivotal Game 7 in Houston

I didn’t saw this one coming.

That being how this best-of-seven Western Conference first round series between the Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz has brought out the best in each team’s group of guys, all vying to advance to the next round and be that much closer to the NBA title.

Of course, with only the Golden State Warriors standing between them and the Western Conference finals, (yes, this eight-seeded team actually eliminated the mighty Dallas Mavericks…) you just know each team is just salivating to play Golden State and hope they won’t be as careless as the Dallas Mavericks were.

The home team won ALL the home games in this best-of-seven first round series. And yep, the Houston Rockets WILL BE at home as they try to finish off the Utah Jazz in front of what would definitely be a raucous crowd in Texas.

The Jazz survived being eliminated at home when they were able to withstand the pressure from Houston, making its own run at Utah in the fourth quarter of Game 6. Desperation was the theme in Salt Lake City as the Jazz survived, winning Game 6, 94-82, to force a decisive Game 7 back in Texas.

The Jazz don’t mind if the crowd will be up against them once it’s time to play the final game of what turned out to be an exciting first-round battle. Well, of course, they DO mind but Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams sure has a nice way of putting things in perspective.

‘’Now they’re facing elimination as well,'’ Williams said, ‘’so it puts a little pressure on them.'’

Yeah… Sure it does. He he… Rockets will win game 7 and will have more than an easy time handling the…

Odds to consider before the 2007 Kentucky Derby

seth-edward-oneal.jpgOf course, ya’ll should know by now that the 2007 Kentucky Derby kicks off the quest for the Triple Crown.

And just in case you didn’t, YEAH, the 2007 Kentucky Derby kicks off this year’s quest for the Triple Crown. And if you don’t know what the Triple Crown is, it’s like the Holy Grail of horse racing when one colt wins the 2007 Kentucky Derby on May 5 and win both of this year’s Preakness Stakes AND Belmont Stakes.

Yeah, it sure is one tough deal alright. That’s why in this sport known as horse racing, you really can’t say who are the favorites to win one goddamn race. Yep, it sure is hard to pick winners in horse racing that’s why sportsbooks have no choice but to just label some horses as ‘’favorites'’ depending on their finishes in the previous races.

What’s even more baffling is the fact that horse trainers and owners spend millions and millions of dollars just so they can win a goddamn race with a prize money that is merely a fraction of how much they spent training the goddamn colt. He he… And that’s the brutal truth.

These guys could very well be the wealthy wannabe kings of the modern day sport who each year spend hundreds of millions of dollars on yearlings and two-year-olds trying to buy and train a horse capable of delivering the glory and return on investment that would come with owning the stallion that sweeps all three American classics. That being the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.

Of the 35 most expensive colts from this year’s three-year-old crop purchased at public auction, only the $1.5 million Cowtown Cat is still on track for the quest. And his early odds are 20-1 in the 2007 Kentucky Derby.

This means the other $88.5 million spent on 34 others may be hard to recover. Fuck.

Oh yeah, since the Triple Crown series began waaay back in 1919, only 11 horses did it. He he… Sure was a looong looong time ago eh? And there is ample evidence that it is harder than ever, largely because of a dramatic shift in the way commercial breeders have responded to market demands that…

Did a former Manchester United star screw Chelsea?

After Chelsea was kicked out of the UEFA Champions League, their race for the Premiership could be over too, thanks to Everton’s Phil Neville.

Yeah, I know what you guys are thinking, (well, for those of you who follow soccer anyway…) ‘’what in the hell does Everton have to do with the race between Man-U and Chelsea for the Premiership?'’

Well, for all ya’ll who don’t know, Phil Neville was a former Manchester United defender and he was leading his new team, Everton, against his former Red Devil teammates Saturday, in a game Man-U can’t afford to lose to keep Chelsea in their rear view mirror.

Well, the set-up was 2-1, in favor of Everton over Manchester United and it seemed then that Chelsea could finally get that Man-U loss to pull them within striking distance of the Premiership lead.

In the 68th minute, the screw job happened. Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville put through an own goal, that’s like scoring for the opposing team instead of your own, to help his former teammates tie the game 2-2 against his own squad. He he… What are the odds to that?

And to make matters worse for Chelsea, Wayne Rooney and Chris Eagles set-up the go-ahead goal to put Manchester United ahead for good. This completed Manchester United’s remarkable comeback, which started of course from Everton’s own, Phil ‘’still a Red Devil'’ Neville. The win may have ended Chelsea’s bid for the Premiership title as Man-U are now five-points ahead of the Blues.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, in spite of this somewhat controversial development, declared that he is not questioning the integrity of Phil Neville nor has any problems with the former Manchester United player.

‘’I have not seen the goal. But I am nobody to doubt the moral integrity of a player and have no reason…'’

Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Oscar De La Hoya boxing match is expected to bring in butt-loads of cash

A match that can very well be dubbed as ‘’The Pretty Boy vs. The Golden Boy'’ will definitely bring in lots of cash for boxing circles.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. knows it too. Heck, the guy stood in a ring recently to fling some cash at an HBO camera that has followed him over the past few weeks for the four-part TV series, ‘’24/7: De La Hoya – Mayweather.'’

‘’My name is Floyd, my name is Floyd,'’ the cocky Floyd Mayweather Jr. sang, releasing the bills in a tempo that matched yet another one of his silly antics. ‘’My name is Money. Mayweather.'’

If every major PPV boxing bout is about money, then Saturday night’s World Boxing Council junior middleweight title bout between ‘’Pretty Boy'’ Oscar De La Hoya and ‘’The Golden Boy'’ Floyd Mayweather Jr. is even more so.

Their goal is to shatter the record of 1.99 million pay-per-view buys, set in 1997 in the second fight between Evander ‘’The Real Deal'’ Holyfield and ‘’Iron'’ Mike Tyson, or the $112 million in revenue recorded in June 2002 for the Tyson – Lennox Lewis bout, which was bought by 1.97 million homes.

The bout has already broken the record in Nevada for live boxing gate receipts, selling out $19 million in tickets at the MGM Grand Arena in three hours. The promoter, De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, is looking to set a new financial standard for closed-circuit revenue and merchandise.

Of course, the entire Hispanic community just might help them do just that as they will be looking forward for this match with their hero, Oscar De La Hoya probably in his last days boxing.

‘’We feel boxing is a place where Tecate can project its image as a bold, authentic Mexican brand,'’ Eduardo Casas, the…
