My second son was watching Pride with me tonight. After a long round of stand-up he - being three years old, mind you - asked:

“Dad, when are they going to do some work downstairs?”

Awesome.

Can’t Say I’ve Seen That Before

Bravo, Italy, but one look through my Technorati Favorites reveals that it’s all about Zizou’s header to the chest…

‘Zidane’s Ultimate Header’ [Saved by the Blog]

‘The Head Heard Round the World’ [Deadspin]

‘A Tarnished Legacy’ [The Big Lead]

‘The Greatest Smack Ever Talked’ [We Are the Postmen]

‘Zizou Wins Empty Skull Award’ [Can’t Stop the Bleeding]

‘The Zidane Head Butt’ [Off Wing Opinion]

And then there’s this totally awesome animated .gif, which some dude named BlogPirate posted in the Deadspin comments. But of course the championship was decided on penalty kicks, which is a travesty. Sportz Assassin explains why, so I won’t even get into it. Regardless, there’s no more soccer for four more years (for me, at least), and I can’t wait to find out what that Italian dude said to Z Squared.

Too Early for Fantasy Football?

Sportz Assassin found something really great right here: free standing draft boards for just $24 courtesy of FJ Fantasy Sports. Sportz used it for his draft last year and plans on doing so again in ‘06. In fact, he prefaces his post on this by saying, “I’m gonna pimp something out there for all y’all.” And I don’t know what’s funnier/sadder about this product, the fact that they use a real live model (or just somebody’s girlfriend) to showcase the product or that I’m actually going to buy one for my league…

Check out the site for all varieties of draft boards, fantasy trophies costing up to $400 and, most interestingly, testimonials like this one from John J. in Ohio…

“I ran my 4 drafts yesterday and the draft boards were a great success. They really added an air of professionalism to my leagues.”

So don’t take it from me or Sportz, take it from the guy who ran four fantasy football drafts in one day, each with “an air of professionalism” mind you, that a free standing draft board is probably something you want, you need, you have to have.

First Shamrock and Ortiz

Good… Uh… Fight… For all of the three seconds before Herb Deen called it.

Look i don’t have a favorite in this fight. i think Shamrock probably prepared for what would have been a good fight if it was allowed to happen.

i went back and counted again and again and Tito scored 6 elbows before Herb Deen called it. Who’s to say if all of those even connected. Either way, it’s a pretty premature call for a fight. That seems to be the epidemic in UFC fights more and more. Obviously when there is a REAL danger then call the fight. Obviously if a dude is just laying there then call the fight. But if a guy is fazed from being taken down and hit hard in the head, consider that maybe he needs a second or two recover. This was CERTAINLY given to Matt Hughes in the Frank Trigg rematch (and i’m no Frank Trigg fan). It’s just getting a little old that these big fights are hyped up and then before they even really start the ref calls it at the first 1.5 seconds of someone not responding.

i don’t care who would have won, but i wanted to see what the two of them could do. Unfortunately that didn’t get to happen. Even the announcers were surprised that Herb Deen stepped in so so.

Now as for the Orlovski and Silvia fight…

Well… It certainly was a long fight. Tim doesn’t impress me that much as a fighter. Miletich has certainly improved him leaps and bounds. He’s also finally starting to drop some fat. Anyway, he’s improved but it seems his big claim to fame is his reach. Andre’s obviously the better fighter in terms of skill, but to beat a dude that tall you need Bruce Lee versus Kareem `Abdu-l-Jabar skills.

See either of the above fighters for two Mixed Martial Artists that i have no worthy-of-note criticism for.
