Curt looks strong in opener

The Bo Sox looked good yesterday in a nice opening-day win over the Texas Rangers on the road. The big story was the return of Curt Schilling, who we will just pretend didn’t pitch at all last season. After taking all of last season off, Curt threw seven solid innings, giving up only 5 hits and two runs.
‘’Curt looked great,” said Sox owner John W. Henry, who watched the early innings in the lower boxes. ‘’That was as big as the win today. Bigger, actually. It means a tremendous amount to this club to see him healthy and pitching well.”
Curt’s health is one of the main ingredients to a successful season for the Red Sox. With the addition of Beckett, they hope to have a strong rotation that will not only be able to get them to the playoffs but help guide them back to the World Series.
On a less optimistic note, Keith Foulke came in with the game out of reach in the ninth and didn’t look especially sharp. They need him to be the Foulke of 2004, as well, or it might not be long until Francona turns to Timlin or young stud Jonathon Papelbon at the end of games. Papelbon has been extremely impressive between his work at the end of last season and thus far through spring training. Boston fans still aren’t thrilled with the idea of their closer throwing in the low 80’s, so if he gets off to another rocky start this season, Boston fans will most likely forget that he helped win them a World Series two years ago and boo him until he loses all faith in himself, and humanity. They are classy like that.
