NFL big boss Paul Tagliabue was talking to a bunch of people with microphones yesterday and did his best to make them all sad. We had no idea this was going on, but apparently the players union and the league are at a stalemate in some sort of renegotiation of their labor deal.

Gene Upshaw, who’s in charge of the union and we’ve never heard of, has threatened to decertify the union if something isn’t done by March.

“I think to some degree positions are hardening when they shouldn’t be hardening. We have serious economic issues we need to address and resolve.

“I don’t think the negotiations are going well, I’m not optimistic,” he said. “I think there needs to be an additional dose of reality on both sides of the table.”

Maybe it’s time for Tags to step down. We’re sure he’s a smart guy, but how is putting reality TV people at the negotiating table going to help anything?

Maybe our current favorite Stacy Keibler could do something, but it’s arguable if Dancing With the Stars is even a reality show. Isn’t that more of a game show or a competition? Either way, we’d totally do it with Stacy Keibler, and if she wasn’t agreeable because of her strong Catholic beliefs, we’d marry her, too.

By the way, we decided to educate ourselves on the NFL a bit more and we’ve changed our SuperBowl prediction. Instead of 4, we’re now predicting “birthday cake”.
