Charlotte Hornets? Chris Andersen Kicked Out of the NBA

January 29th, 2006

If you’re going to go out, go out with guns ablazin’. Chris Andersen of the Charlotte Hornets was kicked out of the NBA for violating the league’s drug policy. However, since a player can only be disqualified for a fourth positive test for performance-enhancing drugs, or a first positive test for “drugs of abuse”, we know that he got kicked out for having a good time because he never has been suspended for performance-enhancing drugs.

The drugs on that list are amphetamine and its analogs, which include methamphetamine; cocaine; LSD; opiates, including heroin, codeine and morphine; and PCP.

Andersen has not previously been suspended for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Under the CBA, the first positive test for performance-enhancing drugs results in a 10-game suspension.

Known as the “Birdman” for his high-flying dunks, Andersen averaged 5.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 32 games this season.

Andersen is probably best remembered for his performance in the NBA’s dunk contest last year when he needed eight tries to finish his first dunk. (Read)
